firms recruiting inexperienced extras could damage the Scottishttish film industry’s reputation.

He claims rookie extras hired to feature in Brad Pitt’s World War Z – shot in Glasgow in 2011 – ended up walking out when they realised what was required of them.

He added: “When World War Z was made, there were all these fresh faces who thought they would be having lunch with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

“Then, after the first day of f ilming, they realised that a 16-hour stint standing about wasn’t really for them.

“So a lot of them didn’t show up again and left the moviemo crew scrambling aboutabout.” ”

Real People are one of Scotland’s biggest agencies, with 1000 extras on their books.

Director David Bell said: “It’s annoying. Sometimes Hollywood just think London is better but it’s not. There are people with 27 years’ experience but they are being ignored for folk with no experience. We’d really like it if clients coming to Scotland used Scottish agencies.”

Sonia Scot t , who runs Glasgow’s All Talent Agency, added: “It’s very disappointing for our reliable and experienced supporting artists.

“We tried our best to get involved, even contacting the agency from London to offer our services, but they said they had a book of folk.”

An Edinburgh-based talent agency boss – who did not want to be named – said: “I’m afraid that’s how it works in our industry a lot of the time. It has got better but on this particular production it wasn’t to be.”

The Association of Film and Telev ision Pract it ioners Scotland said: “Hotels will do well out of this but few Scottishbased crew are employed.” Rosie El l ison, manager of Film Edinburgh, said: “We provide a free database of production services and crew based in the area we cover, in order to help productions find local support.

“It’s the production company’s decision whether they choose talent locally or further afield.”

Neither Disney nor The Casting Collective responded to requests for comment.

The Sunday Mail revealed in January that Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Karen Gillan were heading to Scotland for the latest movie in the franchise. Filming has started in Edinburgh.
