Green Brigade and held up both hands as they sang: “Brendan’s here for 10-in-a-row.”

But he said: “I was just stretching my fingers at the end with the fans.

“There’s a lot to happen before 10-in-a-row can be mentioned.

“But, of course, that’s the supporters’ aim. They’ve been singing it since the first day I came in.

“That’s my job, to try to help them achieve that.”

Rodgers was delighted to keep up their unbeaten run against Killie – and welcome Moussa Dembele back from injury.

The Hoops gaffer said: “I’m very proud of what the team has achieved.

“The last five games will be particularly tough because of the spl it, playing the top teams. But I can’t ask any more from the players.

“I enjoyed watching us today. There was a lovely l ittle arrogance and charisma to our game and we looked exciting.

“That’s Moussa back and it would be nice to have him at peak fitness for the Cup semi against Rangers.”

Rodgers also insists the English Premier League couldn’ t give him the challenge he faces at Celtic.

As he ref lected on his new deal, he said: “As a coach, I couldn’t ask for a bigger challenge, to make Celtic a force in Europe without the finances available at other clubs.

“That’s why I signed for four years. If I went back to the Premier League I’d go into millions upon millions of pounds, where it’s all about buying.

“What is forgotten about is nurturing players.

“The target for Celtic will always be the group stage of the Champions League.

“Then if you can get to the last 16 it would be a huge achievement.”
