French f ilm star Isabelle Huppert might have a string of awards to her name.

But the Bafta-winning 64- year- old claims her acting skills don’t come from months of preparatio­n.

She said: “I’m very lazy, you know. When I’m given a new role, I never do any preparatio­n.

“I read the script, I close it, and the next step is that I do the film.”

The actor is desperate for his character – fans’ favourite Bob Adams – to become a father to experience the same joy he has since becoming dad to Layla, four, and Leo, two.

But Stephen, 33, the last original cast member in Shieldinch, faces more heartbreak as childless Bob this week.

His joy at learning girlfriend Kim, played by Frances Thorburn, is pregnant with his “miracle” baby turns to despair when she admits she slept with his best pal Angus.

It‘s a fresh blow for Bob who had a series of engagement­s, a broken marriage, failed IVF attempts and is unable to adopt because he has a criminal record.

Stephen said: “I would love him to be a dad. It would be a natural progressio­n for him to get married, settle down and have kids.

“I know it would be good for Bob because it’s been good for me.

“I love it. It’s such a game-changer having kids and it opens your mind in ways you don’t see coming.

“Me and my wife have been together for 16 years. We grew up together from primary school to high school and, with kids, it changes everything. It is the best thing ever.”

Having seen so many colleagues come and go, Stephen certainly doesn’t take his role for granted.

He said: “For an actor to be employed for 15 years, I know how lucky I am.

“I know it sounds cheesy but I am just thankful to still be there. Every storyline I get, it’s well handled, it’s well written and I keep going back because I love it.

“I still remember the first day I got the job. I was working in my uncle’s clothes shop in Ingram Street in Glasgow and it was a three-month contract.
