A country pub with great food and cinema for kids? Now that’s magic

-

The Trossachs area is one of the most gorgeous wee nooks of Scotland.

With stunning hills and lochs, and a location not far from the Central Belt, it’s day-trip central.

But if you’re not taking pieces, you need to find a fine country pub for a pit stop.

You could do a lot worse than try out the charming Faerie Tree Inn in Aberfoyle.

It’s well set up for the summer, with great conservatory eating and outdoor access as well as an ample car park.

But inside is the real treat for family day-trippers – the place has its own mini cinema for children, right next to the bar.

The kids can set up camp in their own open-plan section of seated rows. And their food is served on special lap trays along with sweet s , ice cream and popcorn for a very reasonable price – all while quietly watching a movie.

The mini hot dog and pizza were popular with my two.

For adults, there is a good range of beers and wines and a special collection of gins.

For food, they take great pride in a hot plate Black Rock Grill meat menu from the Aberfoyle Butcher, with steaks, chicken, lamb, halloumi veggie option and all sorts available on their sizzling platters. We opted for nachos to start, which were crispy and fresh, followed by chilli hot dog for dad and a traditional burger for mum.

The chilli dog was nice but would have been more appealing if the cheese had been melted. The burger was a smash hit.

The kids were in movie heaven as they cleaned their plates of snacks and desserts while the grown-ups sought a trio of ice cream scoops to share. The atmosphere is good and the staff are excellent.

For a family of four, the bill was just under £50, which isn’t cheap, and the menu could have a slightly broader range. But what they do, they do well. And the cinema is fantastic.
