Book is success on a plate for Jamie
Jamie Oliver is Britain’s bestselling chef again after turning the tables on Nigella Lawson in the Christmas books chart.
The TV chef, 42, has already sold 500,000 copies of 5 Ingredients and has an “unassailable” lead over his old rival.
It is selling f ive times fa ster than domest ic goddess Nigella’s At My Table at No2.
Ex- Ba ke Of f jud ge Mary Berry’s Complete Cookbook is third, with Gino D’Acampo’s Italian Coastal Escape fourth and The Road To Mexico and California by Rick Stein, fifth.
Jamie has also made mincemeat of Joe Wicks who topped last year’s chart with Lean in 15.
His new book, Cooking For Family and Friends, launched too early to be included – but would only be third if it was.
Chart compiler and Tesco bookbuyer Karen Brindle said: “Jamie is back doing what he does best – coming up with simple- to- make recipes that appeal to a wide audience.
“He’s so popular that he can’t be caught.”
It’s good news after a tough year for Jamie.
Six of his chain of 42 Jamie’s Italian restaurants closed amid pressure from a rise in the minimum wage and higher costs of raw materials.
Christmas sales make up a third of the annual food book market as people buy gifts for foodie families and friends.
