Husband cleared of abduction

A husband has been cleared of abducting and attacking his wife after insisting he was trying to save her life.

Rober t Boyd, 33, of Kilwinning, Ayrshire, said he was “restrainin­g” wife Donna to stop her killing herself.

Boyd was cleared of abduction and assault in September 2016 but admitted breaching bail by contacting Donna.

Sentence was deferred at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

Bosses wi l l have to fork out for repair work on up to 500 vehicles affected by the blunder at Rosyth dockyard.

Sources say the bill could be as high as £150,000 amid estimates of it costing £200 to £ 300 to restore each vehicle.

Babcock workers were shotblast cleaning a barge boat at the Fife military naval base on November 8 and 9 when the abrasive material used became airborne and hit nearby cars.

The motors need specialist removal of the metallic grit used in the procedure.

A dockyard source said: “Everyone is furious because their cars were caked in gunk.

“They were shot-blasting a barge boat that had come in to be detailed.

“This stuff somehow became airborne with the wind and splattered almost all the cars parked at the dockyard.

“We were told as many as 500 were affected. There’s obviously been a mistake and Babcock face a hefty cleaning bill. It
