McGinn won’t be a fall guy
Paul McGinn witnessed relegation first hand last season and it’s made him desperate to ensure Partick Thistle beat the drop.
The defender was at Chesterfield last term as they finished bottom of League One in England.
What made it worse was he had to watch their fall from the sidelines after being out for five months with a hamstring injury.
But McGinn believes his wretched time in England will help as the Jags linger dangerously at the bottom of the table.
He said: “Before my injury the Spire it es were comfortably mid table but by the time I came back we were dead and gone.
“I know about the pressure too from my time at Dundee and St Mirren when staying up was always tight. Relegation means people lose their jobs and stuff like that. It’s not very nice to be on the losing side of things.”
McGinn praised boss Alan Archibald for staying calm dur ing Thist le’s terrible run at the start of the season.
The Jags went nine games without winning before f inally defeating, as fate would have it, McGinn’s former side Dundee.
He said: “Alan never really panics. I’ve only seen him lose the rag once or twice.
“He’s able to step back and realises panicking gets you nowhere. That’s a good attitude because we’ve been playing quite well and it was just a case of trying to grind out some results.
“The way it’s gone though, the teams about us are picking up points as well so we need to grind again.
“In my two seasons at Dundee, St Mirren were dead and buried before Christmas then Dundee United were similar as well.
“It’s interesting because this season everyone is picking up points and this is the first time I’ve been here when there’s a playoff involved.”
