I always knew Aaron would be a Mooy wonder

-

Danny Lennon brought a shy Australian kid to Paisley for £50,000 and knew he’d become a superstar.

And that’s why he’s not surprised that Aaron Mooy is ripping up the Premier League after moving from Man City to Huddersfield for £10million.

The 27-year-old midfielder will be at the World Cup in Russ Russia next sum summer.

But Bu back in 2010 at St Mirren he was technically gifted but struggled to adapt to life in Scotland.

Lennon is delighted that Mooy is now fulfilling the potential he showed as a 20-year-old at the Buddies.

He said: “Aaron’s progress has been incredible. I bought him for £50,000 off Owen Coyle at Bolton.

“The only other transfer fee I’ve paid for a player was the £1500 to Tranent Juniors for Darren McGregor.

“Technically Aaron was fantastic. He was shy in and around the ground but he was a young boy far away from home.

“We tried to support him but it was difficult.

“He missed his family and we came to an agreement so he could move back to Australia.

“But it doesn’t surprise me that his ability has taken him to where he is today – and he’s going to a World Cup next summer.

“I always remember his goal against Rangers on Christmas Eve when we won 2-1. It was brilliant.

“When you have a few issues off the park, it doesn’t let you fulfil your potential. But we always knew about his ability and I’m delighted that he’s doing well.”
