Clint: Trophy will prove Gers aren’t over the Hill

-

Clint Hill believes progress for Rangers this season would be closing the gap on Celtic at the top of the Premiership and winning the Scottish Cup.

The veteran defender was back at Ibrox on Wednesday night for the first time since he left last summer.

Hill secured cult hero status among the Gers support by scoring the equaliser in an Old Firm game at Parkhead.

And he insists any new gaf fer must reduce the points deficit to Brendan Rodgers’ team as well as pick up a piece of silverware at Hampden in May.

The 39-year- old is now playing at Carlisle United in England’s League Two.

He said: “I’m away from Rangers now so I don’t see all the ins and outs of the club on a daily basis.

“But the team are clearly not where they want to be at the moment in terms of points and league position.

“However, the 3- 0 win over Aberdeen during the week was a great step forward after two defeats to Dundee and Hamilton.

“The players showed all the qualities on Wednesday that people have questioned about them after the last few games.

“And if they go to Pittodrie and beat them again today suddenly everything will look rosier.

“But I’d imagine Rangers will want to win a trophy this season.

“I think that’s the next progression for the club, as well as closing the points gap on Celtic.

“Those would be two big things for the club moving forward – silverware and getting closer to Celtic.

“Then next season the progression would be to improve on that again.”
