Brora rout is a bittersweet 16
Brora were unaware they were only one goal short of a Highland League record win as they destroyed poor Fort William 16- 0.
The Sutherland side ran riot with Steven Mackay scoring five, Colin Williamson three and Mar t in McLean, Paul Brindle and Z and er Sutherland two. Scott Lisle and John Pickles claimed the other two.
Peterhead retain the modern- day record after hammering Fort 17- 0 in April 1998 before Scottish League admission.
Brora’s club secretary Kevin Mackay said: “We have a lot of respect for Fort William and sympathy with them tonight but we had to be professional.
“Our lads weren’t aware they were chasing a possible record or it might have been even more urgent.”
Cove moved clear at the summit after a 4- 0 beating of Inverurie at Harlaw Park.
Ryan Stott net ted a 19th-minute opener before a Mitch Megginson double either side of the break and Greg Mitchell own goal.
Cove boss John Sheran said: “We worked hard to make sure the boys were up it as this was our biggest game of the season.”
Formartine hammered hosts Deveronvale 5- 0 with Garry Wood and Scott Barbour netting doubles and Johnny Crawford also on target.
Stuart Soane and Robbie Duncanson claimed a brace each as Forres beat Keith 5- 0, with Lee Fraser netting.
Clach won 3- 0 at home to Nairn while Lossiemouth triumphed by the same margin at home to Turriff and Huntly saw off visiting Strathspey 5-1.
