Alex Salmond’s first politics show on a Russian propaganda TV station attracted just 16,000 viewers in Britain.

The former first minister was accused of damaging Scotland ’s international reputation and ruining his own credibility by taking a presenting job with Kremlin mouthpiece RT.

And new TV audience figures suggest The Alex Salmond Show is a massive turn-off for viewers – despite being the most-watched RT show in the UK.

Former SNP leader Salmond managed to secure an interview with Catalonian president Carles Puigdemont for his first show on RT, formerly Russia Today.

But, according to figures from the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB),), itt attracted an audience of just 16,000 when it was first broadcast on the morning off November 16.6. The audience was 15,000 before the break and 16,000 after.

Repeats thehe same day failed to make the channel’s weekly top 10.

In the samee week, Whale Adventure With Nigel Marvin on the channel Eden attracted attrac 24,000 viewers. And Ten Deadl iest Snakes With Nigel Marvin was seen by 19,000. Meanwhile, Mea Life At Vet University on the station Animal Planet attracted 28,000. Even a repeat of Taggart on STV2 was seen by the same number of people who watched Salmond’s show. Scottish Lib Dem leader Willie Rennie said : “There must be more people who have watched the Teletubbies in Auchtermuchty than have watched Alex Salmond’s chat show in the whole world. This compounds the shame Alex should feel for being a stooge for Vladimir Putin on his propaganda channel.

“Scotland deserves better from its former first minister, who has damaged our reputation across the world – apart from in the Kremlin.”

RT are famous for spreading fake news in favour of Putin and have been accused of attempting to influence the outcome of last year’s US presidential election, propelling Donald Trump to the White House.

But Salmond, who lost his Westminster seat in June, has insisted he has full editorial control. His first show on RT was also embroiled in controversy over mystery Twitter posts.

Salmond claimed he had received an “avalanche” of tweets from viewers but critics suggested some may not have been genuine.

He was criticised by the Scottish Government on Thursday for questioning the conviction of the Lockerbie bomber on the latest episode of his show.

He claimed Abdelbaset al Megrahi may have been “wrongly convicted”
