She Sh said: “Matthew and I met when we worked at Edinburgh Airport. Now I’m a t train driver and he’s a bus driver so, between us, we have all modes of transport covered. My brother lives in Abu Dhabi and we had gone on holiday to visit him when Matthew proposed.

“We were in a revolving bar and he got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of his sock. I wondered why he had been itching at his ankle all night.

“I wasn’t expecting the proposal at all. It was amazing – and the ring is beautiful.”

The couple started planning their traditional wedding as soon as they got home – opting for May 19, 2018, because they hoped they might get good weather.

Susan – who, like Meghan, has been married before – is mum to Rebecca, 10, and Owen, seven.

She said: “We picked May because often the weather in Scotland is better then than in summer.

“When Harry and Meghan announced they were getting married then too, I joked that they were trying to steal our thunder but it’s nice to share the day with them.

“We are really looking forward to our big day and enjoying planning everything our own way. I just hope Meghan is getting to do that too.

“We don’t get married until 2.30pm and the royal wedding is at noon so hopefully I’ll have time to catch a little bit on telly. I might even toast the royal couple with a glass of fizz as I’m getting ready.”
