Mum It’s time to grieve for Stephen

-

Them other of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence has revealed her relentless campaign for justice has stopped her grieving properly for her son.

Baroness Doreen Lawrence said she is going to take time out for herself in the wake of the 25th anniversary of his death.

The 65- year- old has battled to bring his killers to justice with only two, Gary Dobson and David Norris, being convicted.

Tragic Stephen, 18, was brutally knifed to death by a racist gang at a bus stop in south-east London on April 22, 1993.

He is buried in Jamaica where his mother visits each year to mark the date – but she will “draw a line” this year after marking it with a memorial service and a concert.

She said: “I can’t keep doing this. I just want time for me, time to reflect.

“I’ve been on the go for 25 years. I haven’t stopped, I don’t think I’ve even completely grieved for Stephen.”

Stephen is buried in a plot next to his greatgrandmother.

Doreen went to his grave last year and replaced a worn photograph, laid flowers and “did the things she needed to do”.

She said she told him what’s happening with the family and even though she knows he’s gone, it doesn’t stop her talking to him.

Doreen added: “I used to go every year. I know I can’t do that any more.”
