Don’t give my goals record cold shoulder says Kane as Spurs win

-

Harry Kane claimed he scored Spurs’ winner at Stoke to break a personal goals record even though Christian Eriksen has been credited with it.

The Premier League Match Centre reviewed the 63rd-minute strike and eventually determined Eriksen’s free-kick had gone directly beyond Jack Butland in Spurs’ 2-1 success.

But Kane has since argued he got the faintest touch on the ball and should therefore be awarded his 36th goal of the season.

That would be his best haul across one campaign for Spurs and the striker said: “It was my goal, it flicked off my shoulder and went in.”

Eriksen, who had earlier opened the scoring with his fourth goal in three games before a quickfire leveller from Mame Biram Diouf, said: “Harry celebrated like it was his goal so I will have to take his word for it.”

The identity of the matchwinner didn’t matter to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

He said: “He (Kane) said it touched his shoulder but I don’t know. The most important thing is the three points for us. Whether it was Christian or Harry we are happy because the three points were massive.”

Sean Dyche’s Burnley continued their pursuit of European football as two goals in three second-half minutes gave them a 2-1 win at Watford.

The Clarets’ hopes of finishing sixth looked like faltering after Roberto Pereyra put the Hornets in front on the hour mark but quickfire replies from Sam

Vokes and Jack Cork saw Dyche’s men close the gap on Arsenal to two points.

It was also their fourth successive top-flight win, the first time they have achieved such a feat since 1968, and a seventh away success of what has been a memorable campaign.

Tammy Abraham scored his first goal in 18 league games to secure Swansea a 1-1 draw at West Brom just when Baggies caretaker boss Darren Moore scented victory.

Moore chose to bring in Scotland winger Matt Phillips as he sought to halt a dispiriting run of nine successive defeats in all competitions. After a goalless first half Albion took the lead when Jay Rodriguez bundled home.

But Swansea grabbed a 75th-minute equaliser through Abraham.

Bournemouth twice hit back to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace, sealed with sub Joshua King’s 89th-minute goal.

The visitors had twice led through Luka Milivojevic and Wilfried Zaha but with King’s goal were then denied the victory. Like King, fellow sub Lys Mousset had earlier scored with one of his first touches.

Newcastle grabbed a 2-1 win at Leicester thanks to Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez. Jamie Vardy reduced the deficit late on.

Ten-man Brighton, who had Davy Propper sent off in 74 minutes, blew the chance to take a giant step towards safety by missing a hatful of chances to draw 1-1 with Huddersfield.

Jonas Lossl’s own goal gifted the Seagulls a lead before Shane Duffy’s loose pass returned the compliment to let Steve Mounie equalise.
