John Robertson hailed his Highland heroes after Caley Thistle eased to an away-day win and insisted they should have scored more.

First-half goals from Nathan Austin, his first for the club, and George Oakley ensured a victory to take up north.

Robertson said: “We have an outside chance of the play-offs and what we have to do now is keep on winning games.

“We are on a good run and unbeaten in six games now. But we still have a lot of points to catch up.

“Some teams think we are too far back but we still have seven games to go. It was two good finishes for the goals and we had opportunities to put the game to bed before half-time.

“Although Queens came at us we still had opportunities to get the third.”

The Caley Jags took an early lead with a simple move. A floated ball into the box from the left by Coll Donaldson landed at the feet of Austin who tucked home from eight yards.

And the roof caved in for the Doonhamers in 30 minutes when Liam Polworth’s cross was glanced in neatly by Oakley.

Queens rallied briefly with Stephen Dobbie curling a fine 20-yard strike inches beyond the far post.

Sub Derek Lyle hit the bar with a fabulous overhead kick in stoppage time.

Queens chief Gary Naysmith said: “It’s a low changing room in there because the promotion spot has gone.

“We cannot start games at half-time. In the last three games we have not got going until 30 or 35 minutes and in this league you won’t win games like that.”
