Hibs gaffer is refusing to give up on the top three after side grab a late leveller

McGinn and Scott Allan. Ross Draper took a booking for a foul on McGinn, with Lennon also annoyed at Chris Routis.

The Hibs boss said: “I’m sick of saying it. Two of them had a go at John and were booked for it. I have said it before and will say it again, someone is going to get hurt.”

Lennon made just one change from the team v ictor ious a ga inst Hamilton on Tuesday.

McGinn, f ree f rom suspension, made an immediate return forcing Steven Whittaker to settle for a place on the bench while wing- back Lewis Stevenson marked his 400th club appearance.

There was little surprise in County caretakers Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson opting for the same team that routed Partick Thistle 4- 0 on Tuesday to climb off bottom place in the table.

Hibs had won on four of their last five trips to Dingwall in the league and County showed them due respect, starting cautiously and establishing a solid foothold.

The Easter Road team opened with confidence but the hosts mostly restricted them to attempts from distance. McGinn’s long ball in four minutes picked out Martin Boyle in a dangerous position but the winger badly mis-controlled.

Allan’s free- kick six minutes later found midweek hat-trick hero Florian Kamberi sending a deflected header wide while an Efe Ambrose attempt soon after spun into Scott Fox’s arms.

Proof of County’s resolute defending came in 27 minutes when a spell of Hibs pressure ended with McGinn’s hopeful 25-yard strike rising into Fox’s clutches. But it was the hosts who stormed ahead a minute later with their first real attempt of the match.

Alex Schalk, another midweek hat-trick hero, teased clear of Ambrose on the left and delivered a quality cross.

Mckay, controlling under pressure, found the goal opening up for him and had time to pick his spot from eight yards.

County’s assurance only grew after the opener but they were lucky not to lose an equaliser four minutes before the break.

The home defence failed to meet Allan’s corner from the right as it found Paul Hanlon smacking a diving header into the turf but up and over the bar.

Among County’s strongest first-half performers was deep midfielder Ross Draper but the former Caley Thistle man sparked Hibs fury as he took a yellow card for cynically halting McGinn.

Furious Hibs boss Lennon was spoken to by ref Bobby Madden.

Hibs threatened early in the second half with Allan rolling a free-kick right on the left edge of the box to McGinn.

His cross was headed into a ruck of bodies by Kamberi before Routis scrambled the ball away.

And the Edinburgh side went close again in 51 minutes with Stevenson’s swerving cross from the left headed wide by Jamie Maclaren under pressure from Liam Fontaine.

County though relieved the pressure with a rapid counter-attack four minutes later. Harry Souttar’s long clearance was pinpoint for Schalk breaking on the left and the Dutchman controlled and went close with a 20- yard blast beyond the far post from the tightest of angles.

It was only a temporary reprieve though with sub Steven Whittaker sending an overhead kick over the bar in 64 minutes.

Hibs were building patiently but County remained resolute. Kamberi was wild with one glimpse at goal.

The excel lent Mckay had to exit af ter pul l ing up unchallenged in 77 mi nut e s , w i t h County throwing on Craig Cur ran as replacement.

More Hibs pressure forced a timely punch from Fox away from the head of Kamberi as Hibs desperately tried to salvage something.

After all the effort two massive points were torn from County’s grasp in the final minute.

Just inside a crowded penalty area Shaw grasped on to the opening and swept the chance home from 16 yards.

Whittaker might even have won it for Hibs with a late header wide.
