Tractor noise is no problem
Jack shrugs off bid to see Saints up
Brechin ..................... 0 St Mirren .................. 1 Buddies boss Jack Ross insists he’ll drown out noise from the Tractor Boys to take his side up.
The Paisley men took a step closer to a return to the top flight courtesy of a Kyle Magennis winning goal to move within one point of the title. Avoiding defeat against Dundee United at Tannadice in midweek will wrap up the title and clinch a return to the top tier after relegation in 2015. Ross was the subject of interest from English Championship side Ipswich pre-match and admitted he is not concentrating on anything other than guiding St Mirren back to the big time. He said: “I am always trying to grow and learn as a manager and I’ve had to learn to deal with all the speculation. “I have been clear with my side about our goal of winning the Championship. We are so close, I don’t want any distractions.” The Buddies went 1- 0 up after just seven minutes when Adam Eckersley’s throw- in found Kyle Magennis who drilled home a screamer from the edge of the box.
Jordan Sinclair came within inches of an equaliser when he smashed a thunderous shot off the bar after 21 minutes.
Harry Davis rose high to power a header that was beaten away by Graeme Smith fol lowing a dangerous Magennis free-kick.
Brechin had a penalty shout waved away by ref David Munro after Gary MacKenzie appeared to tug back Isaac Layne in the area before the break.
Danny Mullen lofted a shot over an advancing Smith but Euan Smith sprinted back to clear the ball off the line.
More than 2000 Buddies had made the trip to Glebe Park hoping for a title party but a late Livingston winner put the champagne on ice.
Brechin boss Darren Dods said: “I thought we played and competed but it is easy to see why St Mirren are the champions in waiting.”
