Wake ends in bust-up

A woman as­saulted two po­lice of­fi­cers af­ter a bustup at her gran’s fu­neral.

Deb­o­rah Hamil­ton, 27, of Ren­frew, was at a wake in Galashiels’ Royal Bri­tish Le­gion Club when a fight broke out af­ter she vom­ited on the floor.

Po­lice were called and Hamil­ton hit a fe­male of­fi­cer on the head. She kicked an­other of­fi­cer at the po­lice sta­tion.

At Selkirk Sher­iff Court, Hamil­ton was found guilty. Sen­tence was de­ferred.

David Brown, 66, was ar­rested in 2006 af­ter po­lice busted the His Chil­dren orphanage in the cap­i­tal Ti­rana.

An ap­peal bid was re­jected last year but Brown has now served enough of his sen­tence un­der Al­ba­nian law to try for pa­role.

A court hear­ing in Ti­rana will take place in front of a judge to de­ter­mine the out­come.

His sol ic­i­tor, Gjyst i na Gol loshi , said: “Based on Al­ba­nian law, he has now com­pleted enough con­di­tions of his sen­tence to make this re­quest to the court.

“I don’t know for sure when he may be re­leased – and there’s not any chance he can be re­leased straight away.

“But our hope is that this court will con­sider the re­quest and I’m ex­pect­ing things to hap­pen soon.

“It’s a pos­si­bil­ity he could be re­leased this year.

“His be­hav­iour in prison has been very good and he has ful­filled all the con­di­tions re­quested of him.

“David is not happy wait­ing for jus­tice to hap­pen.

“He would ideally like the chance to give his tes­ti­mony in court in or­der to prove that he is
