COUNCILLOR SUSPENDED FOR JEWISH POST
A former Labour MP has been suspended from the party over online comments he made about the Jewish community.
Jim Sheridan wrote: “For almost all my adult life, I have had the utmost respect and empathy for the Jewish community and thei r historic suffering.
“No longer, due to what they and their Blairite plotters are doing to my party and the long-suffering people of Britain who need a radical Labour government.”
The ex- Pai s ley and Renfrewshire North MP – who is now a Renfrewshire councillor – is understood to have been suspended yesterday after a complaint was received. Labour said they do not comment on individual cases.
A spokesman said: “The Labour Par ty take al l complaints of anti-Semitism extremely seriously and are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms.
“All complaints about anti- Semitism are ful ly investigated in line with our rules and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”
Speaking about the post, Sheridan said: “I have every sympathy with the Jewish struggle and the horrors they have come through, and on many occasions I have signed the condolences book.
“I ’ m just angr y and frustrated that my party have been hijacked by people who are using anti-Semitism as an excuse to undermine the leadership of our party.”
