WHO HAS WORKED WITH THE BIGGEST NAMES IN SHOWBIZ

and the dichotomy in all of it. But sometimes it’s about recognising when someone is against you and when someone is for you and stop beating them down and just give them a chance.”

Her latest project involves three of Scotland’s major theatre companies, the National Theatre of Scotland, Citizens Theatre, and The Lyceum, who are collaborating on Edwin Morgan’s celebrated GlaswegianScots translation of the play Cyrano de Bergerac.

As is always the case for Pam, she had limited time and budget and had to work with what she could get her hands on.

“It doesn’t matter to me,” she said. “I’ve got hurdles every day of my life. I have a nucleus of an idea and I know it’ll all come together at some point. As long as you’ve got the solid feeling that’s what it’s all about.

For the past few months, she has been work ing with director Dominic Hill on the new co-production of the classic Rostand play. As with all her work, she has delved into her archive, reworked previously worn pieces and crafted and stitched with the skills she has honed from the age of just six. She said: “I just want to do the Citizens proud.”

Pam is in Glasgow to oversee the f inal touches to her creations, including dresses for the lead female character Roxanne, and to catch up with her sister, her only immediate family member who lives in Scotland. Devastated by the Glasgow School of Art fire, she can’t even bear to go and look at the charred remains of the building which changed the course of her life.

She said: “I knew as soon as I walked up those stairs on the first day. I always thought I was stupid. I thought you had to be mathematically minded to be good at something. I got art prizes at school but when I got to the art school I had competition. It was glorious and that set my boundaries higher.

“I can’t even walk up that hill. You can’t undo the fire. If only we could undo the fire.” Here, Pam Hogg talks through some of her favourite pieces and how they came to life. This is a piece from my 2009 collection. I had to make mesh buds and silk ribbons to adorn it but I hadn’t finished the garment. So it was the first time I made a piece on the model.
