World Cup joy will be a game changer
Scotland head coach Shelley Kerr says her side can boost the whole of Scottish football, not just the women’s game, by getting to the World Cup finals.
A two- goal victory over Group Two leaders Switzerland on August 30 in Paisley and a win in Albania five days later will see Scotland qualify for next summer’s tournament in France automatically.
They will also be in with a chance of securing one of four play- off spots from the seven groups if they finish second.
Kerr said: “If you had said at the start of the campaign we would be in this position going into the final two games, everyone involved would have taken that.
“We’re in a great position and the players should take a lot of credit for their achievements so far.
“We’re in a good position but it would be fantastic for not only women’s football but the game in general if we get there.
“We’ll prepare as best as we can and try to perform to our best to put ourselves in the best position.
“If we win both of the games we’ve got a great chance of at least getting to the play- offs but we are still hopeful we can qualify automatically.
“We know what we have got to do.
“There are a lot of permutations because we know some of the groups have more games to go.”
