Miller: We just didn’t box clever

-

Kenny Mi l ler lamented the work of Livingston in both penalty boxes – but insists his side are ready to come good.

The Premiership new boys lost narrowly to league rivals Motherwell in the Betfred Cup after last week’s goalless draw with Kilmarnock. But their player-boss was far from despondent last night.

Nevertheless, the former Rangers striker insists his squad will have to sharpen up at both ends of the pitch if they are to fulfil the potential he believes is there.

Miller said: “The difference is in both boxes. We were in control for long spells and were more than competitive – I didn’t feel there was a lot in it.

“Killie and Motherwell have been in the league a long time and we’ve held our own against them. We were in charge for long periods in both matches.

“However, we need to find that wee bit of a creative edge or take the chances that come our way.

“I didn’t think Motherwel l were better than us but they took one of their chances and that’s something we never did in this game.

“The Motherwell players also defend their box very well.

“Fair play to them and all the best for the next round.

“It’s always disappointing to lose any game but there are a lot of positives we can take. We could’ve scored twice early.

“I had a shot I thought was flying in and I also thought an effort from Steven Lawless was going into the net.

“However, we wi l l be more than competitive this season, we will get better. We’re learning from these games already. This was another positive performance against a good top-flight club.”
