Davies: We’ll be better

- Anthony Haggerty

Celtic No. 2 Chris Davies has warned Premiership rivals they will come back better and stronger after their Champions League disaster in Athens.

Brendan Rodgers’ men fell at the third qualification round against the Greeks last Tuesday night and kissed goodbye to a £ 40million jackpot.

However, Davies is adamant the double-Treble winning side are still the team everybody is desperate to beat in Scotland.

When asked if he sensed that people were willing the Hoops to fail, Davies said: “It’s part of being a successful team.

“With the success we’ve had, it’s only natural you’re the team that people maybe want to see beaten.

“That doesn’t bother us and it hasn’t changed.

“It was the same when we were going for the Invincible Treble or coming back last season and going again.

“We don’t pay any attention to what other people say or do.

“Brenda n is an experienced manager, he has been doing this for 10 years and has been through ups and downs.

“The important thing is to stay rational, keep a level head because you get setbacks in football.

“Up here so far we have won every trophy we’ve gone for, we’re double Treble winners, we got to the Champions League and then progressed out of the group last year. So we hit all our objectives.

“Sometimes you can come out of a set-back even stronger. You have to learn and move on quickly.

“There has been a negativity which has been tried to be put around us but we won’t let this hold us back. We’ve a lot to look forward to this season.

“We will be stronger for this, not weaker.”
