The Muirs the merrier at quaint old pub offering fantastic food and drink

-

It was once a regular haunt of those looking for a drink on their way to T in the Park.

But in the four years after the weekend festival moved away from Balado, near Kinross, The Muirs Inn has enjoyed a bit of a revival.

There is a lot to like about this traditional picturesque watering hole that dates back to the 1800s. Refurbished last year after being taken over by a local couple, it has become a thriving local pub at the heart of this pretty town.

It has a little bit of something for everyone, whether it be a game of darts, pool or watching live football in the main bar.

If that’s not for you, take a seat in the lounge and take a pick from the extensive cocktail menu while listening to your favourite tunes on the juke box. There i s a l so a courtyard for when it is sunny and a log fire in the public bar for those cold winter nights.

Pub Spy cannot help but be impressed when a customer walks into a pub and books a table for 15 for that evening – a sign that the food and drink must be pretty good.

There are plenty of traditional pub-pleasing favourites such as fish and chips and steak and ale pie. But the pan-fried sea bass and buttered leeks was as tasty as I’ve tried in a fine dining restaurant. A nearby table had all plumped for the rump of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes and it looked just as good.

The Muirs Inn staff are friendly and attentive but not too intrusive.

Drinkers have the choice of 18 cocktails, nine draught beers, 11 malts and six gins. A large glass of sauvignon blanc is also decent value at just over a fiver.

After one too many, you could book into one of the pub’s four bedrooms. Something those festival-goers might have loved.
