Robinson is the man to get us Well up table

-

Motherwell defender Liam Donnelly insists boss Stephen Robinson will steer the Steelmen away from trouble in the Premiership.

The Fir Park outfit are languishing near the bottom of the table after taking a miserable five points from nine games.

Donnelly accepts that following last term’s heroics – when the team reached both domestic cup finals and finished seventh – there was an expectancy that Motherwell would perform well again.

The defender is adamant though that Robinson (below) will soon improve results.

He said: “We don’t want to be hanging around the bottom of the table and the manager is vital to that.

“He isn’t just massive for the team, he’s a huge influence throughout the club.

“A lot of what was achieved last season was down to him and I know not one of the players would have a bad word to say about him.

“The manager drives everybody and he keeps pushing and pushing – himself, the players and everyone at the club. “It’s his ideas we work on and it is down to the players to follow those instructions on the pitch.” Motherwell face two crunch fixtures in the coming week against sides who, like themselves, are struggling at the wrong end of the table. First up is a trip to St Mirren on Wednesday followed by a home game with Dundee on Saturday. At the moment Well are staring a relegation battle in the face but Northern Ireland ace Donnelly still has hopes of making the top six. The 22-year-old, who arrived in the summer from Hartlepool, added: “We have been a bit unlucky this season. We’re not far off at all. “We have had a few unlucky moments in games but we’ll keep the heads down and focus on ourselves. “We want to do better in the league than we did last year and that means pushing for the top six.”
