Dan has winning feeling
Daniel Candeias believes the time has come for Rangers to start winning trophies again.
The Portuguese winger was part of a Pedro Caixinha side who lost two semi-finals a year ago – to Motherwell and Celtic at Hampden.
That was a disastrous period for a club which has been transformed this term by Steven Gerrard.
Candeias has emerged as an integral part of Gerrard’s revolution – and feels they’re ready to get their hands on a trophy.
As he prepared for today’s Betfred Cup clash with Aberdeen, the 30- year- old said: “It ’s another semi-final but this year is a different story. Last season is in the past and this is much better.
“This team needs to win trophies and I have a good feeling that this year I will pick up at least one trophy for this club.
“The manager has changed the mentality. Now there’ s real disappointment when we don’t win a game.
“The new players have been fantastic and the manager has had such a good effect on the team.
“All we are thinking about now is winning trophies for Rangers.
“I won a league with Porto and the Portuguese Cup. But when I won it with Porto I didn’t play many games. Here at Rangers I’ve played a lot more so it would mean more to me.”
Gerrard has a problem in his attack with both central strikers, Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty, unavailable.
He has the option of deploying a wide player up front and Candeias said: “I will play wherever he wants me to play.
“When I was younger, I played as a striker before changing my position. But if we wants me to play there on Sunday I’m ready.”
