My Oscar win was a big letdown

-

Actress Tilda Swinton has admitted she felt “disappointed” while picking up an Oscar because the ceremony was no t “mor e magnificent”.

She won the Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2008, for her role in Michael Clayton.

But the star, who lives in Nairn, was underwhelmed by the ceremony in Los Angeles because she hadn’t been to one or watched one on TV before.

She imagined it was like the scene in 1992 film The Bodyguard in which Kevin Costner’s character Frank is shot protecting Whitney Houston’s singer Rachel.

Swinton told Rol l ing Stone magazine: “At that time, I’d never seen the Oscars on the television.

“I knew that it was a big deal but it didn’t have any real impact in my life.

“I remember being a bit disappointed that it wasn’t more magnificent, that it wasn’t in a bigger room.

“It was because my reference was The Bodyguard. That was the only time I’d seen the Oscars and it was in a pumped-up version.

“Nobody ran across the stage or got shot or anything.”

Swinton has been tipped for an Oscar for the gothic horror f ilm Suspiria, in which she plays two roles.
