Fifers finally end 30-year hoodoo

- Scott Inglis

Darren Young was almost lost for words after a last-gasp goal for his East Fife side capped a second-half fightback as they beat rivals Raith for the first time since 1988.

Liam Buchanan gave Raith an early lead before Kevin Smith equalised in 76 minutes.

An injury-time strike from Aaron Dunsmore then won it for the Methil men with ecstatic East Fife keeper Brett Long sent off for celebrating the goal in front of the away fans. Young said:

East Fife .................. 2 Raith Rovers .......... 1

“I’m speechless to be honest, it was some performance.

“It’s been coming. We played well against Raith before but didn’t get the rewards.”

Rovers boss John McGlynn, who was earlier sent to the stand during a bust up with the ref, said: “Like the Forfar game, we were in front and then lost control of the game.”
