Relegated to League Two, clubless and resigned to quitting the game.
Yesterday Ross Millen was on top of the world.
Filling the Scotland rightback ’ s boots in his f irst top-flight start, he scored the goal that powered Kilmarnock into the top three.
The 24- year- old’s 73rdminute strike inflicted Hearts’ first home defeat of the season and only their second in a remarkable 18 months at their Gorgie fortress.
Crocked Stephen O’Donnell last-minute stand-in –whose six- month deal runs out at Christmas – admitted he was in dreamland after completing a career U-turn following his departure from Queen’s Park.
Millen, son of former Killie stopper and current reserve coach Andy, grinned and said: “I think my dad may have tackled a few when he was here but he never scored!
“It’s a great feeling though. This time last year I was playing away to Albion Rovers and now I’m playing against Hearts for a team in the top three of the Premiership.
“I had five or six years at Dunfermline and played in the Championship but this was my first game in the top division.
“It’s strange, really strange. In the summer I was chucking it, to be honest.
“I came out of Queen’s Park
