Baz kicks up stink in darts row

-

Claims darts stars have been letting more than their arrows go on the oche have been laughed off by PDC chairman Barry Hearn.

Gary Anderson’s 10-2 Grand Slam of Darts win over Wesley Harms has been overshadowed after the Dutch ace said he was af fected by the “fragrant smell” Anderson had left as they played with the Scot claiming the smell had come “from the table side” of the venue in Wolverhampton.

Hearn has now waded into the ‘ fartgate’ row which has threatened to engulf the tournament.

He said: “Something doesn’t smell right. This could run and run.

“On a serious note, this is a top-level competition so we have no intention of renaming the event the ‘Grand Slam of Farts’ as some have suggested.”

Anderson last night booked a place in the Grand Slam semi-final with a 16- 6 win over Michael Unterbuchner. Keaton Jennings’ superb fielding turned the tide for England in the second Test against Sri Lanka.

The hosts ended day four in Kandy seven down for 226 with England’s hand considerably strengthened by Jennings’ incredible reactions.

The batsman made a superb onehanded grab before parrying a sharp chance for wicketkeeper Ben Foakes.

Jennings said: “It isn’t a fluke when guys put a lot of work into it.” Kell Brook claims he’s having to monitor his Instagram posts for fear of scaring off Amir Khan.

If Brook can overcome Michael Zerafa in Sheffield next month, the bitter boxing rivals could finally share a ring in March or May.

Brook said: “It can happen but I’ve got to be careful with my Instagram stories. I’m looking the part.” Darryl Wood insists new signing Tadas Rinkunas can get Glasgow Rocks motoring again.

The Lithuanian will make his home debut against Surrey Scorchers today after helping Rocks book a spot in the BBL Cup last four with Friday’s twopoint win at Plymouth Raiders.

Head coach Wood said: “He’s not a crazy athlete but he can really shoot the ball.” Defending champ Eve Muirhead and fellow Scot Bruce Mouat both made a winning start at the European Curling Championships in Tallinn.

Muirhead’s rink began their campaign by defeating Denmark’s Madeleine Dupont.

The Scots take on Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg today and Muirhead admitted: “We know it’s going to be tough against them.”

World bronze medallist Mouat clinched a last shot 8-7 win against Norway’s Steffen Walstad.
