High cost of festive flights

Brits looking to spend Christmas or New Year abroad will have to pay up to seven times as much for f l ights over the festive period compared to just a few weeks before, says travel website KAYAK.

Festive getaways to sunny dest inat ions such as Portugal and Spain have seen flight prices increase by more than 600 per cent between November and the end of December.

Long- haul t r ip s to Australia also double in the lead-up to Christmas.

Flights from the UK to Sydney cost £732 on average last week compared to £1286 for the week beginning December 17.
