No Scarlet fever for the Warriors
Dave’s boys shrug off Alex red to stay in rude health
Glasgow shrugged off Alex Allan’s controversial red card to topple Scarlets and stay top of their Pro14 group.
Fired-up Warriors claimed one of their most stunning triumphs as they smashed their hoodoo against the Welsh outfit.
Rennie’s depleted troops were furious when prop Allan was sent packing by the video referee in the first half.
But they channelled their anger into defying the odds at Scotstoun to earn sweet revenge for last season’s Pro14 play-off semi final at the same venue. Delighted head
Glasgow Warriors ..... 29 Scarlets ...................... 20
David Kelso
coach Dave Rennie said: “It was an enormous win for us - with 14 men for a huge chunk of the game against a very strong Scarlets side. “We k e p t ou r composure really well after Alex Allan was red carded. “We had a lot of young lads out there, but we focus on the players who are here, not who we are missing.”
Warriors fans were left infuriated when ref Frank Murphy had seen nothing amiss with Allan’s challenge on Jake Ball.
But he was alerted by Scottish video assistant Charl ie Samson who insisted it was serious foul play.
Yet Allan’s departure sparked Glasgow into offensive mode with Brandon Thomson banging over two penalties as well as a great try and conversion.
All the Welsh side could respond with was a Rhys Patchell penalty and that meant the Warriors led 13-3 at half-time. Within two minutes of the restart it was 20-3 as Glasgow centre Nick Grigg finished a slick move that had started with Scarlets being turned over.
In the second half Scarlets touched down through Jonathan Davies, Steff Evans and Clayton Blommetjies.
But two penalties from Thomson kept Glasgow well ahead.
Ref Murphy sparked more uproar when he only yellow carded Scarlets sub Tom Philips for a high hit .
Those t r ies for Evans and Blommetjies set up a nervy finish but Thomson’s fifth penalty saw Glasgow secure a thrilling win.
