McKinnon joy as Falkirk move off bottom spot

-

Forbes sent Sons on their way.

Dom Thomas added a third in 69 minutes before Jordan Sinclair pulled one back for Brechin. Gallagher grabbed another to seal the win for Sons.

Duffy said: “The players are off to Dublin so they can go and enjoy it which is important. It’s good for their psychology.” Ray McKinnon insists Falkirk are finally up and running after climbing off the foot of the table for the first time all season.

Scott Harrison’s last-gasp winner ended Caley Thistle’s remarkable nine- month Championship unbeaten run.

Bairns boss McKinnon said: “It is always a good feeling to score the winning goal in the dying seconds.

“We had a game plan and the players delivered it.

“The guys are buying into how we play and working extremely hard.

“I know it has taken us a while to get to this standard but I’m delighted. If the players keep putting in hard work and performances like that they’ll get the points.”

A first half that opened so brightly for Inverness turned ugly as their defence switched off at vital moments.

With f ive minutes gone, Liam Polwor th’s superb through pass sent Tom Walsh racing into the box and he finished coolly with a low shot.

Caley Thistle keeper Mark Ridgers held Zak Rudden’s long-range shot six minutes later but within four minutes he was picking the equaliser out of his net.

Deimantas Petravicius whipped a cross into the box and the unmarked Rudden nodded home.

go in front after 36 minutes. A long punt forward found Rudden lurking on the left and he turned inside Shaun Rooney to fire through the keeper’s hands.

Caley Thistle drew level in 61 minutes as Polworth’s corner made it all the way to the back of the box where defender Rooney powered a strong header goalward.

George Oakley managed the slightest of head-flicks on it to nestle the ball in the far corner of the net.

Falkirk dug in and dug deep but a breakaway surge from Rudden ended with a strong save down low from Ridgers after 78 minutes.

Ju st when it seemed Inverness were heading for a 26th- game unbeaten in the league, Paul Paton’s long f ree- k ick spun across a crowded six-yard box.

There was Harrison at the back post to apply the touch for a sensational winner.

Caley Thistle manager John Robertson said: “I understand the frustration of the fans.

“Teams come in and sit then hit us on the break.

“But I’m disappointed for the players because they didn’t deserve to lose their great unbeaten record. We should be sitting here with three points but for a failure to mark properly in our box.”
