City still romp at the top

-

Edinburgh City boss James McDonaugh said his players were disappointed despite a 2-0 win over Queen’s Park that extends their run to one loss in 18 games.

He said: “We played well in the first half and were in control but the second half was disappointing.

“The players are feeling the same way as I am.

“We edged in front then scored a great second goal but Queen’s Park came back at us.”

Top scorer Blair Henderson drove home the opener in 31 minutes and Scott Shepherd made it 2-0 almost immediately after.

Queens threatened after the break but their chances evaporated when Dom McLaren was sent off for a second yellow card.

Clyde pulled off an amazing second-half comeback as they fought back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with Berwick Rangers.

Two goals from trialist Lewis Barr and a free-kick from Paul Willis saw Clyde go in at the break with a mountain to climb.

But strikes from David Goodwillie, Dylan Cogill and John Rankin saw Clyde come back and it could have went either way in a tense final 20 minutes.

Stirling Albion smashed Elgin City 5-2 in a triumphant return from injury for Darren Smith.

Elgin had led through Kerr Hay and Shane Sutherland but their joy was short-lived as Smith found his way to goal.

The striker marked his first start of the season by scoring a terrific volley which was followed up by Neil McLaughlin’s excellent solo effort.

Smith then turned provider by crossing for Dylan Mackin to finish before a red card followed for Elgin’s Jordan Lowden.

Smith netted again before Dominic Docherty provided the finishing touch to make it five.

Peterhead kept up the pressure on Edinburgh City at the top with a 2-1 win at Balmoor over Annan.

Derek Lyle put the Blue Toon ahead from close range in just the second minute but Annan responded with a spirited display.

They equalised from the penalty spot in 80 minutes. The reasoning behind the decision was unclear but Tony Wallace found the net regardless.

But Peterhead rallied and Russell McLean hit the winner in 84 minutes.

Both goals came from the penalty spot as bottom side Albion Rovers and Cowdenbeath shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
