Lawrence Shankland reckons Ayr’s Tannadice rout has killed all talk that they’ve fluked their way to the top.

The United striker struck four past title favourites Dundee United in the 5- 0 thrashing on Friday night.

Ian McCall’s Championship table- toppers are now six points ahead of the Terrors and two clear of Ross County.

So Shanks hopes their critics will finally shut up.

He said: “This shows what we’ve got. A team winning by five goals at Tannadice is virtually unheard of.

“Some people were maybe thinking we’d fluked our way to the top of the table.

“But if you’re still top at this stage of the season then you’re obviously not a bad side.”

Rangers, Sunderland and Swansea are all believed to be monitoring the red-hot striker but Shank land is ju st concentrating on more goals.

He said: “I’m delighted with my record but I’m getting good service. And our defence deserves more credit. They’ve given us a platform

“Whatever happens next month happens. If anything comes in we’ll speak about it but I won’t be get too caught up in it.”
