Time to Russell up Cup

- Graeme Macpherson n

Aberdeen icon Russelll Anderson warns the clubb can’t wait much longer too land more silver – or theyy will end up suffering.

Anderson was captainn in the 2014 League Cupp Final win that ended Dons’s’ 19-year trophy drought.

He remembers the relieff it brought – but reckonss the goodwill it bought thee club is starting to run out.t.

Aberdeen have reachedd two finals since but lostt both to Celtic. So Andoo hopes it will be third timee lucky for his old side against the Hoops in this today’s League Cup Final.

He said: “I can’t believe it has been four-and-a-half years now since we last won a trophy. Time flies. It’s still nowhere near as long as the previous gap between trophies but you don’t want to let it get much longer.

“I don’t think Aberdeen fans would tolerate another 19-year wait!

“We were under pressure to win in 2014 and knew we couldn’t let that chance slip against Inverness.

“At least the current side are giving themselves a chance as they are making semi- finals and finals. Hopefully they can get over the line this afternoon.”

Aberdeen will need Scott McKenna to be at his best if they are to keep Celtic’s forward line quiet.

The former Dons captain has been impressed and said: “Scott has done well. I remember him as a young player at the club and he’s in a good place just now for both club and country.”
