HIGHLAND LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Steven Mackay is looking for his Brora Rangers players to crank up the title pressure after they blitzed Forres 4- 0 on a day that saw leaders Cove lose their first game this term.

Player-boss Mackay netted a double to take his goal tally to 200 for the club, with Dale Gillespie also netting twice.

Mackay said: “That was another highly professional performance from the boys and a crucial three points.

“It’s good to close the gap and, while it was a personal landmark today, the most important thing was winning and keeping the pressure on the top two.”

Brora remain a point behind second-placed Fraserburgh, who beat leaders Cove 1- 0 at Bellslea Park to move within five points of their title rivals.

Scott Barbour netted the killer goal in the first half to end Cove’s winning run of 16 on the bounce.

Blair Yule was red carded on a disappointing day for John Sheran’s men.

A Josh Bolton double, and Neil McLean and Chris Herd strikes helped Inverurie Locos to a 4- 0 win at Huntly.

LOWLAND LEAGUE ROUND-UP

Paul Woods netted a goal in each half as East Kilbride beat Gala 3-0 to move within a point of league leaders Kelty. The 32-year-old midfielder insists they have the quality to win the league. He said: “We are capable of winning the title.” Jamie Longworth was also on target for Kilby. In the Qualifying Cup a Ciaren Chalmers double in extra time and strikes from Stuart Cargill and Ian Nimmo helped Barry Ferguson’s Kelty dump Whitehill 4- 0.
