He said: “I’m not sure if the Prime Minister will get her Brexit deal through Parliament.

“The Government whips will be working overtime to try to make things work. I just have my doubts over her deal – but stranger things have happened.

“It might not be the best deal imaginable but it might be the best deal available.

“The question of a Northern Ireland backstop remains and some form of agreement over this will be needed. It’s another difficult question and another big sticking point.

“I don’t think there will be a second referendum, nor should there be as we live in a democracy. I didn’t vote for the Tory Government but you vote and accept it – that’s democracy.”
