Royal Mail are recruiting ex- cops to stop thieving postmen and tackle a rising tide of scams.

Former police officers are being of f e red about £ 30,000 a year to work as investigators – looking for everything from posties stealing notes from kids’ birthday cards to spotting the work of organised criminal gangs.

Figures showed there was a 51 per cent rise in complaints to Royal Mail about “di sappea r ing parcels” over the past year.
