Cara Teven is a young woman on a mission that could make a night on the tiles a little safer for everyone – but particularly for other young women.

The 21-year-old law student, from Ayr, launched the Girls Against Spiking campaign, which has the backing of Police Scotland. And she’s making progress.

The University of Strathclyde have begun to offer drinks with lids in a bid to deter those scumbags who might try to spike booze with date-rape drugs. ( Top blokes, eh?) It’s a crime believed to be massively under-reported, with victims too often blamed and shamed.

So Cara is taking a stand, lobbying pubs and clubs to adopt the “lids” idea. Good on her. Time to fight back and time those busy nightclubs did more to protect their young customers, whose money they’re quick enough to take.
