Channel 4 to broadcast top show from Glasgow
Channel 4 News have revealed plans to broadcast their flagship programme from Glasgow.
The station have taken over the top f loor of a converted warehouse in the city’s Tradeston area.
Management want to build a “glass box” studio on the roof, featuring the Glasgow cityscape as a backdrop.
Editor Ben de Pear said: “We want it to be a centre of excellence in journalism as well as, in the coming year, a place from which we will broadcast the programme on occasion.
“It wi l l anchor our Scotland coverage and give it well deserved and greater prominence.”
It emerged last month Channel 4 had chosen Glasgow for a new “creative hub”, while Leeds would be the new headquarters.
The restructure is part of a huge shake- up of the 36- year- old channel, which has until now been based in central London.
The creative hubs will focus on programme commissioning.
About 300 Channel 4 jobs, including managers with significant spending power, will eventually be based outside the capital.
At the time Alex Mahon, chief executive of Channel 4, said: “Glasgow has a well established production sector and locating a creative hub in the city will give Channel 4 the opportunity to tap into the rich cultural diversity of Scotland.”
