Will brother inherit too?

-

My gran died but did not leave a will. She has a house worth £65,000 and savings. Her only child, my mum, is also dead. My estranged adopted brother in Australia now says he’s entitled to a share. Is he? Yes, as the law of intestate succession applies if there is no will. And as your mum predeceased your gran, the grandchildren inherit once debts and liabilities have been met. An adopted child has the same rights of succession in relation to his/her adoptive parent’s estate as a natural child.
