I can help her be a copy Cat

Colin Montgomerie has offered to help fellow Scot Catriona Matthew lead Europe’s women to Solheim Cup glory on home soil.

The pair met in Edinburgh this week and Monty, who skippered Europe to the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010, would love to see Matthew repeat that success when Gleneagles hosts the clash with the Americans in September.

Monty said: “I told Catriona that I would be willing to help over the course and if she picks up the phone then fine.

“But I don’t want to get in the way. I would never push that on her. She would have to come to me.

“I obviously have a lot of experience having being involved in nine Ryder Cups, so if she has some questions fire away, please.

“I think she’s changing, more outgoing. You are a better captain the more respect you can get and I think she’s got a huge amount of respect from everybody in the ladies game.

“I don’t think she has ever been given the credit she deserves for winning the Women’s British Open 11 weeks after giving birth. It was fantastic. “It’s good also to see Laura Davies there as a vice captain. That’s a real coup.”
