Judges No miscarriage of justice

frightened young woman semi-naked in the street. She was found by her mother and boyfriend.

CCTV showed Maqsood, who did not know the teenagers, parking outside a pub where they had been drinking before offering them a lift.

Dad Maqsood admitted having sex with the girl but claimed it was consensual and had been initiated by her.

But Lord Carloway rejected his claims, saying: “The Crown contended that the complainer was incapable of consent as a result of the effects of alcohol, that incapacity does require proof.

“The corroboration in this case came from the evidence of the complainer’s friend, bar staff, the CCTV recording and the complainer’s boyfriend and her mother. The trial judge’s directions were entirely in favour of the appellant (Maqsood). They did not cause any miscarriage of justice. The appeal is accordingly refused.”

Maqsood, of Pollokshields, Glasgow, attacked his victim on December 5, 2016. He dropped the friend off at her home around 11.30pm. Maqsood then took the teen several miles away to a car park in Thornliebank, Glasgow, to rape her.

After the attack, Maqsood went to a 24-hour gym, where he washed and put his victim’s clothes in a charity skip.

At his trial at the High Court in Glasgow last December, Lady Stacey ordered Maqsood to be monitored for two years after his release from prison.

Maqsood also featured in the 2006 trial of four men charged with the race-hate murder of 15-year-old Kriss Donald, who was abducted in Pollokshields.

Imran “Baldy” Shahid lodged a failed special defence of blaming Maqsood and others for the murder. Shahid and three men were later convicted of the murder.
