Rankin top with the boss

- Clyde ................1 Annan ..............0

Clyde manager Danny Lennon hailed John Rankin after the veteran midfielder struck deep into injury time to keep his team hard on the heels of the top two.

The 35-year-old volleyed in from close range after a long throw and flick-on to move his side to within five points of second.

Lennon said: “It’s great we’ve managed to keep on the tails of Edinburgh City and Peterhead with that late goal. I’ve praised John in front of everyone as he put in a massive shift and got his reward late on.”

David Goodwillie also put the ball in the net for Clyde after eight minutes and 72 minutes but saw his goals ruled out for offside and a foul on keeper Alex Mitchell respectively.

In the closing minutes before Rankin’s goal, Annan sub Max Wright volleyed at the keeper while Goodwillie was denied at the other end.

Annan boss Peter Murphy said: “I was pleased we played some good football but we need an end product and we didn’t have that.”
