Touch of Blair in title race
Edinburgh City .. 4 Elgin..................... 1
Edinburgh boss James McDonaugh praised his men for cementing their position at the top of the league with a thumping victory.
Top scorer Blair Henderson claimed a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 24 as they responded in style to Rabin Omar’s leveller for Elgin.
McDonaugh said: “With Peterhead’s game called off we knew this was a great opportunity for us to remain top and I thought we did really well.”
Edinburgh went ahead in 21 minutes when Henderson netted from Craig Thomson’s pass but Omar dispossessed keeper Calum Antell to level just after the hour.
Allan Smith restored the hosts’ lead and Henderson’s two late strikes sealed the rout.
Elgin boss Gavin Price said: “When we levelled we were capable of winning but we’re conceding too many goals through poor defending.”
