Considine: Strike hero is our new Adam

first 20 minutes when they should have been tested as the sleet fell relentlessly.

Dean Lyness was finally called into action eight minutes later to tip a Niall McGinn free-kick over the bar but Derek McInnes’ Dons took the lead from the corner that followed.

Considine was pulled to the ground by Alfie Jones as he attacked McGinn’s cross . Ref Greg Aitken had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and booking the Saints defender, whose lack of complaint told its own story.

May stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way but to be fair to the Buddies, they didn’t fold and fought their way level in the 34th minute.

They were given a helping hand from the Aberdeen defence, who failed to deal with an Adam Hammill free-kick into the box. When the ball fell to MacPherson eight yards out he had time to take a touch and fire under Joe Lewis.

May should have restored the Dons’ lead seven minutes after the break when Cosgrove’s neat pass left him one-on-one with Lyness but the keeper stood tall and made a fine save.

Lyness could do nothing to prevent his side falling behind again in the 61st minute.

He made a brilliant stop, tipping Considine’s point-blank header from McGinn’s free-kick on to the bar but Cosgrove pounced to head home his second goal in two games.
