Hardy buyers

We asked shoppers why they braved the elements instead of shopping online.

-

MARIE MOLLINS

Marie, 65, Livingston: “Maybe the weather put some people off because it was a severe weather forecast but it is the secondlast Saturday before Christmas. I don’t shop online because I love going to the shops too much.”

KEVIN MOLLINS

Kevin, 30, Livingston: “Aye the weather puts people off shopping when it’s this bad. People don’t like rainy weather or coldness so you can see why they wouldn’t come out today. I’d say I do about two per cent of shopping online.”

TIM ASHWORTH

Tim, 18, Bishopbriggs said: “The bad weather probably does put people off going shopping a wee bit. I probably shop about 70 per cent online. I had to come out for something specific today for my mum and dad’s Christmas present.”

EMILY CAIRNS

Emily , 17, Falkirk: “The storm has put people off coming out to the shops cause its not nice to walk in and you get pure soggy and sometimes the bags will rip. I would say I do like 90 per cent of shopping online. I just came out today to help my friend.”

MAX INGLIS

Max, 17, Falkirk: “It puts people off because no one wants to get wet. All the shops on the High Street in Falkirk are either shutting or they’re not that good. I probably do about 90 per cent online or I’d come here for something special.”

SANDRA MANNING

Sandra, 55, Glasgow: “No I don’t think the bad weather puts people off shopping, if you have something you need to get most people still go out. I braved it today. People have stuff to get for Christmas. I don’t do any shopping online at all.

FRANCIS OWENS

Francis, 64, Redcar, near Middlesborough, England said: “We were up for the Celtic game and stayed for four days because we like the shops here so we’ve done most of our Christmas shopping. I don’t do much online shopping at all”
