Miracle pill saves unborn children

-

Thousands of babies could be saved every year thanks to a £13 miracle pill that halts miscarriages.

A breakthrough trial of women prone to multiple fai led pregnancies has reported a 100 per cent success rate to date.

The doctor in charge of the ground-breaking research, carried out by medical charity Borne, believes the drug – which is usually used to treat asthma – could save as many as 60,000 unborn children each year in the UK.

It could also save the NHS up to £283million a year in treatments for premature babies born with disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

Professor Mark Johnson, of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, said: “We could halt the devastating heartache and upset altogether for thousands of families whose babies arrive early.”

Fifteen miracle babies are celebrating their first Christmas this year. A further eight are due in the coming weeks.

Two mums on the pioneering trial thanked Johnson for making their dreams come true.

Charmagne Reblando, from London, said: “I’d already given God four babies and he listened to my prayers when he gave me my daughter Mia.

“I can’t thank Professor Johnson and the Borne team enough for making our miracle possible.”

New mum Tara Sarathy, who gave birth two weeks ago, added: “I’m extremely grateful and in complete awe of Borne.”
