Detect ive Sergeant Stephen Greenshields said: “I would ask that if anyone remembers seeing the cars along that route between 1am and 1.35am on Tuesday morning to get in touch with police.

“We have been checking CCTV and motorway cameras but are keen to obtain any dash- cam footage motorists may have of the pursuit.

“The only descriptions of the men driving the BMW and the Scirocco is that they were all Asian in appearance.

“We believe there were four in the first car and two in the second car. We also understand that all involved are known to each other.

“A man was injured and the manner of the driving was such that other people could easily been affected.”
